There are 2 ways to have a bet when visiting Downpatrick Racecourse. On site we have the opportunity for you to have a bet in house with our Tote facility which can be found in our hospitality areas and bars. Down by the parade ring we have a number of traditional bookmakers all offering their own betting odds.

The Racecard will give you all the necessary information for picking a horse.

When betting, take time to look around at what each bookmaker is offering with regards to odds of each horse in the race. Once you have selected the bookmaker you want, tell him/her clearly the horse and stake you want. Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet back to you to check you were heard correctly. (The bookmakers area can be rather noisy) You will be given an itemised receipt that shows the details of your bet and winnings due. Check your receipt carefully and speak to the bookmaker if you see any mistakes or have any questions. Look after your receipt as you will need to present it back to the bookmaker should your horse win to collect your money.

Never bin your bookies receipt until after the 'Weighed In' announcement has been made. Even if your horse has not won there may still be the possibility of a Stewards Enquiry which can change the result of the race.

There are two main types of bets; Win or Each Way.
For the Win only stake to pay back for you, the horse you bet on must win the race. An Each Way bet can be considered as two equal bets, one bet for your horse to win and one bet for it to be placed. For example a £10 each way bet will cost you £20. You will see displayed above each bookmakers their terms on which they accept Each Way bets. Don't hesitate to ask the bookmaker any questions you may have.
